Taking Care of Business Home Style

So you think you are capable of building, developing and maintaining your own business. You must get used to the idea that there are no little fairies anywhere that will worry about your responsibilities. You will need to worry about them or delegate to someone else.

watch it!

Some of the things you need to have together are for example your domain name registration. You should get reminders from your domain registrar so don’t ignore them. Check your spam folder frequently to see if you have any real mail there. If you let the domain name registration expire you will need to reset the DNS (domain name servers) to match your hosting account after you renew it.

If you let it expire long enough you will even have to go through a 30-day waiting period where you can’t register it but people at auction can. They may try to sell you your $5 domain for $200. (Don’t do it). You will wait it out and if nobody hijacks it you can register it again. Oh – and in the meantime your website is down and your business is essentially closed.

This could all happen because you are not taking care of business. Other examples are your hosting account. They usually have a little grace period and may notify you if they try to debit your account and are not able. If you don’t respond they will shut down your website until you pay them what you owe. This means again your website is down and your business is essentially closed.

This is also true with your autoresponder and your prospects may be being turned away with ‘not active’ or ‘Ooops” messages. In either case you are losing them probably forever. If you have memberships in affiliate programs, they too will likely try to debit your account as agreed and if they can’t they will let you know. If you don’t respond your affiliate ID is deactivated and any advertising you may be doing will be for nothing as the would-be customer is getting an error message rather than a sign-up screen. You need to make a note of the date your payments are due.

Buy yourself a calendar or set one up online – whichever you think you would be more likely to access on a regular basis so you don’t miss a critical date. If you have always worked in a corporate or retail environment you are probably used to everything being done for you and/or being reminded that you need to do things. However this is part of the structure you need to build for yourself in setting up your home business. Don’t let phrases like ‘passive income’ and ‘autopilot’ dissuade you from being actively engaged in your business so that you know what is going on.

Start a Home Biz and Have Fun Making Money

You can have serious fun making money on different levels. There is the fun that comes from doing something gratifying and maybe learning something new. Then there is the real fun that comes when you actually start earning money. Very encouraging to bank your first check and this will help to keep you motivated, knowing it really is possible. Then of course is the fun of spending the money on something you really want or need.

money is fun

It does however even with all of this hilarious fun require a certain mindset to be able to work in your ‘spare time’ consistently. If you don’t look at it like more ‘work’ but instead a new hobby (the making money hobby), it won’t get to be drudgery. The mere fact that you are working from home in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere (at least compared to a job) will go a long way to help it seem enjoyable and something you look forward to.

It is very possible once you have done your initial implementation and have everything running, to relax and look at it passively. With an online business things do run automatically once you get them all set up. You do not need to be on your website to make a sale or be at the beck and call of everybody who might email you (although it is a nice touch if you respond to your prospects and customers within a reasonable amount of time).

So with everything running and having all your bases covered, you can slack off a little, spend some time with your family, get some fresh air and exercise – you know – live. Don’t get the mistaken idea that having your own home business is like a job at all. You are responsible to yourself. By extension then you are responsible to your customers. This is on your terms and hopefully you will value it all enough to be professional.

As long as you look at your business as a priority and are sure everything is covered, then you are free to do whatever else you want. You don’t have to wait for ‘lunch hour’ or ‘break time’ – You can work your own hours and take a day off here and there whenever you feel like it. So this is another sense where this can really be fun!

Home Biz 101: Breathing

Yes breathing. We can’t say it is over-rated as it is actually life. We do take it for granted though. We are busy breathing morning, noon and night and we don’t take any notice of it. However did you know if we do remember to be aware of our breathing it can make a big difference in how we perceive and react to situations?

breath deep!

Particularly when people are stressed as in starting a business or because they are learning something new, this the very time when they go to pieces. They don’t see what is in front of them but start to flounder around and make mistakes. Obviously if they can read the directions or follow the instructions they would be better off.

Sometimes in order to be able to function properly we need to calm down. There is too much noise and chaos when we are stressed and it is no wonder that we only see or hear half of what is there when our minds and bodies are so busy trying to navigate through all the emotions. We can only do so many things at once!

However, if we could remember to just focus on our breathing for a second, it has so much power. Do you hear it? Feel it? Good you are still alive. Now if we can take at least one deep breath we would calm down one octave. Better still if we could take the time to calmly take 3 deep breaths and let it out slowly, we could be on a whole different plain.

Of course according to the degree of stress, the more time you can spend being conscious of and controlling your breathing, the better off you will be. It is really sometimes difficult to remember to ‘carve out’ a special time to do exercises – even what amounts to a few minutes for breathing.

Once we are able to see the value when we do breathing exercises on the fly (and just a couple as described), then maybe we will like it so much that we will make time to start and/or end our day with a few minutes to focus on our breathing.

For now though, let’s not worry about getting into a sticky commitment and just remember that when you feel stress, focus on your breathing. Try to take at least one deep breath before you speak or act. You will begin to see a big difference. It may even protect you from serious health problems brought on by stress.
